If you're in the market for a mattress that combines comfort, support, and affordability, you'll want to read on.

The Kin by Tuft & Needle is engineered with adaptive foam that aims to keep you cool throughout the night while providing balanced support. It's built to bring all the good of latex and memory foam mattresses without the typical drawbacks like excessive sinking and overheating. The mattress is designed to offer a firm yet comfortable sleep experience, available at a price that caters to a wide range of buyers. Additionally, it boasts certifications such as GREENGUARD Gold and CertiPUR-US, ensuring a product free of harmful chemicals. With a 100-night trial and a 10-year limited warranty, this mattress is priced competitively yet built with high quality in mind. Now let's dive into the pros and cons based on customer feedback.

Quality and Comfort

One of the central selling points of the Kin by Tuft & Needle mattress is its unique adaptive foam. Customers frequently point out its balanced firmness, noting that it provides the support needed to alleviate common sleep disturbances like pressure points and overheating.

Many reviewers appreciated the comfort level the mattress offers. "My first night of sleep on the mattress was blissful. So comfortable, dare I add, 'soothing'?" shared one satisfied customer. Others echo this sentiment, pointing out that the mattress facilitates a good night's rest without the inconvenience of waking up due to heat, which is a common flaw seen in other foam mattresses.

On the downside, some customers felt the mattress lacked the initial comfortable feel they sought. "This mattress does not immediately feel like the most comfortable thing in the world," noted one user, particularly when comparing it with softer memory foam options. Still, most regard the ‘medium-firm’ description as accurate once familiarization occurs.

Usability and Set-Up

The Tuft & Needle mattress is hailed for its easy setup process. It arrives compressed in a box, making transportation and unpacking straightforward. One customer suggests, "Unrolling and removal of the plastic protection covers was simple enough for me, but I would suggest two people do it for ease."

Nevertheless, potential buyers should manage their expectations regarding the time the mattress takes to expand fully. While some found it usable within a couple of hours, others advise patience up to 72 hours as per the instructions so it reaches its optimal form.

Features and Performance

A strong suit of the Kin by Tuft & Needle mattress is its cooling feature. Many reviewers found this mattress to sleep cooler than their previous memory foam or traditional spring mattresses. "With this mattress, no such issue. So...older women rejoice! No more crazy night sweats on this thing," exclaimed a pleased customer. Aspects like these make the mattress especially appealing to those who live in warmer climates or those with temperature sensitivity.

However, some users noted a minor movement transfer while sleeping, stating they can feel their partner’s slight movements: "You do feel a LITTLE bit of your partner's movement on the bed...," a user highlighted. Still, this was not seen as a major drawback, particularly given how well it otherwise balances firmness and comfort.

Durability

While it's relatively early days for many reviewers, the general consensus projects confidence in the product's longevity given the construction quality and brand reputation. The mattress holds promise particularly to those looking to invest in a durable product without a hefty price tag.

"This was not a problem," said one long-term user, expressing satisfaction with the bed’s ability to maintain its structure and firmness over time. Supporting these views are the significant certifications like the GREENGUARD Gold and CertiPUR-US, which attest to the quality and safety of materials used in its design.

Conclusion

In summing up, the Kin by Tuft & Needle Firm 8" Twin Adaptive Foam Mattress delivers on its promise of affordability, comfort, and quality. Known for its firm yet soothing support, it stands out as a budget-friendly option that doesn't cut corners on performance. The cooling features and breathability are major selling points, making it especially suitable for hot sleepers.

While some users might find the initial feel of the mattress a tad more firm than desired, the extensive sleep trials and warranties provided give potential buyers peace of mind.

Overall, with the plethora of positive feedback and few minor grievances, it’s clear that the Kin by Tuft & Needle is a worthy contender for anyone's next mattress purchase, making it an impressively well-rounded product one can confidently invest in. Based on extensive customer feedback, it's safe to say this mattress checks boxes for both restful sleep and value for money.

Comments from Amazon:

It is firm, cool, and comfortable

Pros: We purchased this bed for a great deal one year ago. It is firm, cool, and comfortable. Was a great purchase and provides great sleep. I would buy the mattress again for myself or another bedroom in my home. Cons: wish it had a little more bounce for other activities.

The air mattresses have been okay, the last one I had was a very expensive three chamber model, but it finally met its end (not a leak)

I bought this mattress to replace yet another air mattress that I have used for years as a replacement for a waterbed mattress. The air mattresses have been okay, the last one I had was a very expensive three chamber model, but it finally met its end (not a leak). I had seen commercials for the "mattress in a box" offerings, so I was curious if they came in a California King size. Some searching on Amazon lead me to Tuft & Needle. They offered very attractive prices as opposed to others I had seen advertised on television. They also carried a California King in an 8" thickness, that was perfect for my existing frame. So after reading both positive and negative reviews, I took the plunge and ordered. It arrived quickly, and in a box that was smaller than I expected. Unrolling and removal of the plastic protection covers was simple enough for me, but I would suggest two people do it for ease. I did it myself, so it can be done, but two people would make short work of the job and endure far less of a struggle. I experienced no strong chemical aroma that I had read about in some reviews. After a couple of hours I tested it out. The instructions said it was okay to use after two or three hours. My initial response was that of pleasant surprise. It was very comfortable and filled the bed frame exactly as I had hoped. It also allowed me to use my normal bed rails once again as the new mattress did not stick up above the rails. After I got the bedding on, the whole bed appeared much lower to the ground than it did before. That was really because the old air mattress was a good 12" and it had a 4" memory foam topper on top of it. Making it actually taller. This was not a problem. My first night of sleep on the mattress was blissful. So comfortable, dare I add, "soothing"? At first, I was sort of afraid I would sink, the foam compress, and feel the wood underneath. That did not happen. It also does not sleep hot, which was another worry. Yes, like all mattresses, you leave a warm spot, but the mattress dissipates the body heat and allows me a wonderfully comfortable night of rest. All subsequent sleeps have been just as comfortable and pleasurable. I honestly could not be happier with the experience I have had with my Tuft & Needle mattress. The cost was a lot less than I expected to pay for a mattress in a box. I had hesitation that I would get cheaper quality, but that fear was proved wrong. I have received nothing but great sleep and the feeling of a well made purchase. I can only imagine that the thicker versions would be just as, if not more comfortable, but I am completely satisfied with the one I purchased. In my reading, I believe that the "model" I chose is an exclusive to Amazon. They do offer a satisfaction guarantee, but since my satisfaction was met and exceeded, I will not be using it. If you are considering purchasing this mattress, do so with confidence. If for some reason you are not satisfied, use their guarantee. I believe that you will be just as satisfied as I am with this mattress. I would suggest not judging it until it has fully expanded (A couple of days), though I knew I had made the right choice the first night I spent on it. Thank you Tuft & Needle!

But I wanted to share my thoughts since I had initially purchased a Modway and returned it to get this mattress

It's admittedly a bit early to review this mattress, having only slept on it for a week now. But I wanted to share my thoughts since I had initially purchased a Modway and returned it to get this mattress. First, I'll say this - Amazon tells you to give this up to 72 hours to fill up, so I actually called customer service to ask whether you really needed to wait that long. The answer is no - the mattress can fill out in as little as 2 hours (mine sure did), and even if it doesn't fill all the way right away, it doesn't hurt it if you sleep on it. So said the folks at Tuft & Needle. Second... This mattress does not immediately feel like the most comfortable thing in the world. The Modway I'd just returned was a memory foam mattress with a cooling gel pad, and when you got into it, it immediately felt super comfy. I could lay on my side and my back and both ways felt phenomenal. But when my wife slept on it, she sank WAY down. And she'd wake up with terrible back pain. So when I set up my new Nod mattress...and tested it out...it felt strangely rubbery. It didn't feel immediately soft OR firm (they say medium, and I suppose that's pretty much what it is). It also doesn't let you sink in - at all. With the memory foam mattress (Modway) I barely felt my wife moving on the other side. With this one, I do kind of feel it - but not as much as you would with an innerspring mattress. Laying on the mattress, again, it doesn't immediately feel like the most comfortable thing in the world, but both my wife and I have slept incredibly well on it. I wake up feeling refreshed, rested...and no pain for either of us! I sleep on both my back and my sides, in case you're a side/back sleeper & you're wondering... It also sleeps MUCH cooler than both my former innerspring mattress and the Modway, which supposedly has some sort of a cooling gel layer. With both of those, I woke up uncomfortably hot at least once or twice during the night. With this mattress, no such issue. So...older women rejoice! No more crazy night sweats on this thing. So...that's pretty much my experience so far. Here's a summary: GOOD STUFF: 1. don't feel your partner's movement as much as on an innerspring mattress, but do feel it a bit more than a memory foam mattress. 2. doesn't get hot - at all. No night sweats ladies! 3. wake up feeling refreshed, no aches & pains 4. can use it pretty much right away, within a couple of hours - no need to wait 72 hours NOT SO GOOD STUFF: 1. doesn't "feel" immediately comfy, especially if you're a side sleeper. Not sure how much that matters since my sleep quality has been amazing so far. 2. you do feel a LITTLE bit of your partner's movement on the bed...then again, my wife has not had to adjust as much on this mattress, so what little movement you would feel is reduced. Overall, I highly recommend this mattress so far. I'll update in a few months if anything changes.

It had a chance to sit for about 14 hours before i slept on it and have to say, I slept like a baby

Received this 2 days ago, set it up yesterday morning and slept on it last night. It had a chance to sit for about 14 hours before i slept on it and have to say, I slept like a baby. No pressure points, completely cradled my body without waking up once because of discomfort. I am giving 4 stars only because I have only had one night with this, I expect it will change to 5 stars after a few weeks.

 HUGEEEE for me

I purchased two of these beds for many reasons- I love them and heres why- affordable, has amazing certifications about assuring you they use higher quality materials and no toxins. HUGEEEE for me. This was my whole mission-to find a bed for my two kids, that had these certifications, without spending $1,000+ . Also, children under ages, I believe it’s 8 but could be 7; should be on a mattress that is not thick for optimal spinal development- so we choose the 6” height/firm mattress- size full, for both of our children under 7. They love their mattresses and honestly, it’s more comfortable than my $3,500 mattress that is 18+ in height with no certifications. Oh I wish I knew back then about the importance of these certifications and how high of a mattress is right for you. Seriously, great mattress; and they arrived quick and we love this brand. Thanks!

Wish it was a bit thicker/higher, though

This mattress is a bit on the soft side, but is quite comfortable. Wish it was a bit thicker/higher, though.
