Introduction

The HEMERA Queen Mattress is a 12-inch green tea-infused gel memory foam mattress that comes with an array of promising features. Designed for comfort, breathability, and support, its medium firmness ensures a balanced sleep experience for side and back sleepers alike. Packaged conveniently as a bed in a box, this product not only assures easy setup but also delivers a sleep surface that's CertiPUR-US certified and free from harmful substances like fiberglass. The mattress features a three-layer foam system that includes a 2-inch memory foam for body pressure relief, a 3-inch comfort layer to reduce motion transfer, and a robust 9-inch high-density base for core support. With a removable and washable cover, it highlights practical maintenance, further aiding prolonged mattress durability.

Pros and Cons

Quality and Comfort

One of the key highlights is the comfort HEMERA provides. Many users have lauded the comfort level of this mattress, specifically mentioning the cooling gel memory foam technology that helps dissipate body heat effectively. For instance, one customer, who weighs 300 lbs, noted, "I sleep on this with my 3 large dogs, and I am nearly always hugging the edge at some point in night. None of us are pushing the edge down." This attests to the stability and support provided by the foam, which accommodates a range of body types without compromising comfort.

However, there's a noticeable variance in customer feedback regarding firmness. While described as medium-firm, some found it softer than anticipated. One user mentioned, "The mattress is NOT med firm. It is super soft." This discrepancy indicates the subjective nature of firmness perception based on individual weight and preferences.

Usability and Features

Setting up the HEMERA mattress is notably easy and user-friendly. It's designed to effortlessly inflate to its full size once unboxed and has been praised for not having a noticeable off-gassing odor, which can be a common concern with foam mattresses. "Just cut open the bag and let the air do the rest. It inflates quickly," said a pleased customer who found the setup process commendably simple and straightforward.

On the downside, some users encountered issues with the mattress not fully expanding at the corners, though they reported improvement over time. This was highlighted in the review, "The corners are still a little sloped but they’ve risen more this morning." It seems that while initial impressions regarding edge integrity may vary, there is potential for these issues to resolve with time.

Durability and Longevity

Durability is essential when it comes to mattresses, and while the HEMERA mattress generally performs well, some users have mixed reviews concerning its long-term resilience. An individual stated, "It had already broken down to a point of it sagging," when comparing the HEMERA with their $2,000 mattress, indicating that even at a lower price point, the product competes well with higher-end variants in terms of longevity and performance.

Conversely, another customer shared concerns about longevity due to their experience of the mattress feeling slightly irregular after extended use. "The ends have not fully expanded... probably going to return," they reported, suggesting variability in manufacturing consistency or personal setup conditions.

Conclusion

The HEMERA Queen Mattress strikes a fine balance between affordability and remarkable performance, especially for a product in its price category. It serves as a refreshing choice for budget-conscious shoppers who also value quality. Its commendable features include its green tea-infused gel memory foam, cooling effect, hassle-free setup, and pressure-relieving properties, providing a substantial sleep experience to a wide audience.

However, individual preferences regarding firmness and cushion cannot be ignored, suggesting that those requiring a plush feel may want to complement the mattress with an additional pad for added comfort. Concerns about the long-term durability highlight a need for care during set up and patience for the mattress to fully adapt to its optimal state post-unboxing.

In conclusion, the HEMERA mattress emerges as a versatile option for those exploring an economical yet supportive sleep solution. It stands out by delivering a cooling, comfort-driven sleep surface with environmentally considerate materials. While it may not be the perfect match for everyone, particularly those desiring firmer support, its value for money and functional design rank it highly among mattress-in-a-box options available today.

Comfortable for my tall, heavy, middle-aged body

In short: pleased with this budget friendly purchase. Comfortable for my tall, heavy, middle-aged body. Medium firm seems accurate. Has firmness to feel like quality design, but softness to provide gentle support. I dont roll off edges, can sit on edges fine (but dont sit at very corners), little movement (I sleep with 3 large dogs), doesnt seem to trap heat. Measurements seem accurate. Most all aches and issues gone. For longer write up, read on: While I dont usually rate on price, I am factoring it in here because the price point for mattresses are all over the place. At time of purchase, Dec 2024, the price was $178. Currently $222, still reasonable. I spent way too much time looking for a mattress. Which one do I take a chance on? I knew I wanted a HYBRID bed in a box (sping and foam). 12" max, and queen sized. That brought up lots and lots of options. I read through reviews on mattresses at all price points. Though I focused mainly on anything under $400. I had lucked out on a couple of brands for our full sized beds, and knew that I could probably find something suitable under $400. The brands of our full sized beds didnt have a queen option at time of my shopping. After reading through hundreds of reviews over the course of a couple of months of searching (I'd read about a few mattresses, put some in my "maybe" pile, many in my "nope" pile, then take a break for a few days). I would revisit my shopping search and rinse and repeat this process until I learned more and narrowed down to a handful of choices. I knew I wanted to have something chosen leading up to or during the biggest part of the holiday sale season. What I noticed on nearly every single review, no matter the price point, is that there are pretty much the same comments between the lowest ratings and highest ratings. Very few provide detail on why they like it or dont like it, nearly no one mentions their weight, height, or other details that make it good or bad. I was able to suss out the ones that seemed like it was a truly awful product, but none really stood out as THEE one to have. I then looked at amount of reviews and the percentage of variability within the star rating system. I wanted few in the 2-3 stars, and to have a more solid 4-5 star rating with few in the 1%. I mean, of course we all want that. But I found that really adhering to this helped me see the bigger picture across hundreds of mattresses, particularly as the price spectrum is very wide. I ended up choosing this because the $178 mattress didnt seem to be any worse than comments on the $300-400 mattress. I DID take a peek at the $500-1000 mattresses, and I noticed the exact same distribution with similar comments and lack of detail. I didn feel any more secure in spending MORE, so why not just try a cheapie and go from there? OH, furthermore, I narrowed down my "narrowed down" search by looking for WEIGHT of mattress. Not all list the weight, but I determined heavier is better. I think for this one, a reviewer or two may have alluded to its heavy weight. I dont recall what I figured this to be, but it was something I decided was appropriate for a "better" quality mattress. I also chose the thickest mattress as I could go as I figured that gives me most material to provide a comforting feel. 12" was max I could have in my space, so 12" is what I chose. OK, so after lugging this up a set of stairs, I opened the box, and carefully cut away the plastic. Since this does poof up significantly, it is best to stand to the side lest it unfurl quick enough to hurl anyone standing at long edge across the room. Comes with a cutter, just use it carefully. Once out of its compression cocoon, it is a full grown queen mattress. I placed it upright in my hallway and let it stand for a few days. No off smell that I could pick up. No, the edges and corners are NOT perfect. They look like they sag, but truly it is FINE. Once you put your sheets and bedding on, it will never ever be noticed. It looks lumpy, but it isnt. There is some fluff to the top most material and that does not impact the overall look (with bedding on) nor feel. Bottom portion is the spring, top portion is a gel foam mattress. It is the corners of the soft gel foam that have a "sag" appearance when unboxed and without sheets. It is just some loose material in those spots. The springs are there, but the very tip of corner is just thick material and not so much the gel foam. NO WORRIES on the edges. NOW, lets talk about actual EDGES. I am HEAVY. I am an Amazon at 5'11" and 300 lbs. Balanced hour glass shape. I can sit on the EDGE of the bed and while it goes down (like any mattress), I am not suddenly sliding off. I can sit on side of bed and take off clothes, put on clothes, do my nightly routine etc. NOR am I sliding off or feel like it is going down when I am LAYING down. I sleep on this with my 3 large dogs, and I am nearly always hugging the edge at some point in night. None of us are pushing the edge down. My hubs has his own bed smooshed up on mine. We have this arrangement because our dogs sleep with us. As for the CORNER of the bed.. like, right on the corner...well... who sits there? Usually people just sit on side (whether on short length or long length), but not directly on the tippy corner. So if you are like typical people then dont worry.. all good. But if you have to sit directly on the very tip of corner, then you will be disappointed. This spot is definitely going to go down significantly. I did not measure the height or width to make sure it is what is says it is, but I know that I could only go up to 12" max because the bed it up against a large set of windows and our AC window unit is in the center window. The mattress hits the bottom as expected for 12". WIDTH seems a wee little narrow (barely)compared to the mattress I was replacing-- one that is 35 years old. My sheets fit fine and fits fine on my raised bed frame (I dont use box spring). When I lay on it, it is medium firm. I DO NOT sink into it, yet I feel supported. It is important that I refer you back to my weight and height. See, perception of softness or firmness is a subjective thing, but it can also be determined based on someones height and weight. A heavier person will find a mattress softer than a lighter person. A lighter person will find a mattresses firmer feeling compared to what a heavier person may perceive. My HEAVY (but balanced) body perceives this to be medium firm. A firm leaning medium. Those that prefer softer can easily add to the plush feel by adding an inexpensive thin memory foam pad on top. I doubt anyone would use this along with a traditional box spring, but I imagine that impacts the overall feel as well. I use the Zinus Smart Base for my bedframe. That particular model is suited well for heavier people and also reduces toe stubbing because of how it is designed. My mattress doesnt shake as much as my old (very old) mattress did as my dogs jumped up and off the bed 100x per night. I can feel it a little but they really dont shake me. I'd say this brand does a good job with that. If wanting to fully avoid any added movement from a "bed in a box" then go with a full memory foam only bed and skip the hybrid. BUT you risk it being too soft and too warm. Now lets talk coolness. I'm pleased that this doesnt make me feel hot. Doesnt feel like it traps heat. Subtle but noticeable over my last mattress. Lastly: pain. I bought a new mattress because my old one was really keeping me from sleeping. I was just tossing and turning so much from aches and pains. I already have a bad back from a couple of old back injuries, but then add in my legs, arms, shoulders, and hip feeling odd pains on and off all night? I knew I needed to get a new mattress. My arms constantly falling asleep pushed me over the edge. While I still wake with mildly achy back, I am overall quite comfortable all night. I can feel that nice "ahhh" sensation from not having my body ache on and off all night long. I toss one or twice and that's it. I attribute all this to the accuracy of their weight distribution design. Pressure points arent being terrorized. I feel much more supported. Yet not engulfed in the restriction that a full memory foam mattress provides (that's my hubs bed, also hence why I have my own mattress). Only been sleeping on this TWO WEEKS, so I will probably come back to update at another time (I'm a prolific reviewer and update on stuff like this, whether it be good or bad experience info). But I figured I have a pretty good idea about this mattress within this 2 week time frame. I MAY add my thin memory foam to this just for a little more squish, but I also find it has been pretty good as is. OVERALL, I am pleased, and YES price factors in but that is probably a first for me. I am glad to have taken a chance on a lower cost mattress (I think sub $250 is good), and that my patience in scouring brands and reading reviews paid off. As with anything, what one person likes may not be something someone else likes and visa versa, hence why details are important and helpful. I like this, but you may not, but hopefully something in this written portion provided you enough info to help make a decision for it or against it. I knew I did not want to try to find something in a store so carefully selecting online was something I was invested in. I did not NEED to find the cheapest mattress. In fact I was willing to go up quite a bit in budget. Yet when I wasnt seeing anything that stood out at any price point, I figured I would try to fine a winner at a lower price point. Really, all the mattresses seem to read the same and have similar star rating distribution. I just sussed out a few that really tightened up the information for me. I truly hope this helps YOU! I will update right away if need be, and perhaps just over time as I remember.

It had already broken down to a point of it sagging

We purchased a new mattress 4 yrs ago for over $2,000 from a big furniture store. It had already broken down to a point of it sagging. Our previous memory foam was so soft and too hot, we spent a small fortune on it as well. We decided to try this Amazon very low priced mattress, and it's amazing! Wow!!! We are so impressed with how perfect it is for both of us. My husband is a side sleeper, and I sleep on back and side. But usually get so hot you have to keep flipping...lol Both of us absolutely love this mattress. It's not too firm, yet it is firm enough to support you. Its not too soft that you sink and can't move, but it is soft enough to give relief to all your pressure points. And I did not move at all because so comfortable and it stays so cool! Also, you dont feel any movement at all. The delivery came fast. Setting it up with two was pretty easy. It is 14 inches and very heavy. It came to full size by 2nd day. The corners were slow to pop up but they look great today. For us, after two expensive mattresses, this one beats both of them. It's just right Medium softness ✅️ Cool ✅️ and reasonably priced ✅️

The ends have not fully expanded

Had the mattress for 8 days so far. The ends have not fully expanded. I have moved, flipped, rolled, stepped, massaged and still not expanding. I am probably going to return. I am not sure what that looks like because it came in rolled up in a small box and this thing is not going back in a box. The other issue is the mattress is NOT med firm. It is super soft. I pulled the cover tight so you could more easliy see how the corners are squished together. There is plenty of slack in that cover which came installed the the mattress. There is also the mattress cover i took off to allow the mattress to breath.

We’ve only slept on it one night and it’s so much more comfortable than our old spring mattress! It was packaged nicely and set up easy

I was hesitant about this purchase but honestly so far it’s great. We’ve only slept on it one night and it’s so much more comfortable than our old spring mattress! It was packaged nicely and set up easy. Just cut open the bag and let the air do the rest. It inflates quickly. The corners are still a little sloped but they’ve risen more this morning. The firmness is just right. It’s soft but you don’t sink. There’s a 100 day return on it. So we’re gonna test it out a little longer. I feel confident that we’ll keep it though! I’m impressed with the quality and the price! Looks well made. The real test will be after a few more nights sleeping on it to see if it continues to hold its form. Again I’m confident it will

I was planning on using an antique bed that has been in the family for four generations

I recently moved from a twin sized bed to full. I was planning on using an antique bed that has been in the family for four generations. After allowing my new mattress to out-gas a few days we assembled the bed; however the mattress is too large. Each side bulges out about four inches. Not only does it not fit into the bed (which has held modern full size mattresses before) the fitted sheets dot not fit well. I had o order a new bed that has more of a platform mattress area and will be purchasing a queen sized sheet to cut down to fit. Having said all that, the mattress is very comfortable and I have been getting great nights, sleeping well and no morning back aches.

Have a very bouncy hubby who likes to toss and turn and keep me up all night because our old mattress bounced every time BUT NOT THIS ONE!! OMG it's a marriage savor
